If you’re like me, you probably lack patience, you get your website up and running, you write content day in day out for a week and when you don’t see the results come in, you panic and start to lose hope.

Don’t lose hope. Here are a few fast ways to make easy money from blogging at home (please note, some of these links are affiliate links):

1. Sign up to

2. Use Chitika instead of AdSense – you get paid after you’ve made $10, instead of AdSense where you need to wait until £60!

3. Sell your services on Digital Point forums (do it quietly though)

4. Become an affiliate and promote products (e.g. Share A Sale)

5. Sell your own products/services – you could perhaps write an ebook and sell it from your site, or maybe offer a service.

6. Sell advertising directly from your blog – the problem with this is it isn’t fast, so the best way is to go round your local neighbourhood and ask if anyone wants to advertise, you may get lucky!

Yes you read it correctly, I bought a Cockatiel website, for £300, I must be nuts! Anthony Shapley sold me it, he’d been earning money on it for years, but I think he wanted the money to put into his new personal project on private number plates (good luck Ant – hope it works out for you).

So, why did I pay £300 for a site that seemed as though it was making £26 per month? Well if the site stays the same then I should make my money back in 12 months, after that I have a regular income without any more work! I didn’t intend to make any improvements, but as Anthony said, he really didn’t put any work into this site, so I noticed one or two things. So here is what I have done so far to try and squeeze the most out of the site.

First up, I noticed three pages where Anthony hadn’t put any AdSense blocks on – according to his Analytics these accounted for 37% of page views, so by adding them I should see a 58~59% increase in page views and hence earnings – one of these pages, the cockatiel cages page, is now my biggest earner of AdSense revenue.

Secondly I decided to tag the page with AdWords Remarketing – with the aim of hitting previous visitors with an affililiate link to cockatiel related products, I’ve got well over 2,000 tagged users now – but for some reason I am not getting any impressions – any ideas anyone?

That’s about it really, didn’t take much work. I’m intending to buy an AdSense site with any freelance income I get (which isn’t much *sniff*) – the aim is to buy a site that earns me £50 a month (roughly) everytime I have £600 (roughly) saved. I’ve created my first AdSense site (well second if you count that stupid venetian masks thing). The AdSense site is on CRM software systems and the earnings are hopefully going to be high, plus it ties in great with my digital marketing diploma, which goes on and on about CRM – so I’ve got plenty to write. I’m hoping to get it earning me at least the cost of the accounting package I’m using, so I don’t make a loss if I do no work!

Finally I’m hoping to buy cockatiel care of Anthony, which will hopefully be a good little site to start me off, and at least if the CRM site doesn’t work out, I will still have enough to pay for the accounting software.

Aswell as this I’ve got a deal with my brother in law, he’s running a Yorkshire based Jazz Band called Frankly Jazz. He’s going to pay me commission on any gigs I generate for him!

This might seem like a bit of a weird title for me, but stay with me and I’ll explain, needless to say this isn’t about ERP systems.

I’ve been playing around with the Google Search Based Keyword Tool when I stumbled across the inbuilt filter feature. IT’S AMAZING!!!

Ok, I’ve calmed down now, so what the hell am I blithering on about? Check the video, then read the text below it in case I’m not coherent on the video!

Go to the Google SK Tool and click on browse by category at the bottom. Now look through, you can see all the top keywords by category.

But the cool thing is, if you click on filter, you can set the minimum searches to be, say, 1000 a month – great for SEO research.

Looking For An AdSense Site With Low Competition?
But even better, why not filter it by 1,000 searches a month or more, with a suggested bid of £1 or more – that will cut down the list loads! Then try ordering it by least competition to most. Through this method I identified a hell of a load of areas with low compeititon.

Examples include: niagara falls, galabingo, 888 sports and a few other things

Then I tried putting the minimum bid to something like £5 and the searches to at least 100, and I got some very interesting keywords:

the benefits of erp systems (£14.18 ), cgdiscountgolf (£35.14??)

Unfortunately I doubt I will get the ERP ads on this, but I thought it was an interesting way of finding some highly valuable keywords with low competition.

I did actually once work on an ERP system implementation in my previous job before Bronco, I’m not sure what the benefits of ERP systems are, I suppose it saves time and money, in theory.

I digress.

Well I decided to go with my idea of doing an Internet marketing blog in the end, for a number of reasons, but the main reason being that I have a passion for it, and so it should be easy for me to write endless amounts of content for it.

In fact I went for two blogs, but I’ve only set one up so far.  Site Juicer is to be my Internet marketing blog, and I’ve recently pimped it out with loads of ads – the AdSense ones being in highly clickable places (according to Google’s blog heatmap).

I’ve also setup affililate links for all the products my visitors are likely to be interested in, some of them I get paid per lead, which has particularly interested me.

Finally I have created an advertise here page with PayPal subscribe buttons, I haven’t really fairly priced the adverts, if I was to they would be worth almost nothing!! Instead I’ve put the miminum prices I would accept for the hassle, and I plan to increase traffic and page views over the coming months.

My next step will be to create an ebook to encourage email signups, this will then be followed up with a *yawn* email autoresponder series – each one recommending a product or service.

So once I’ve done my ebook (hopefully by the end of next week) I will start writing content and interlinking it. I’ve also got ProBloggers 31 days to a better blog, which I plan on giving a try…

At least it should be an interesting project to work on, I hope to learn a lot about monetizing in the process (I’ve even made £18 this week for referring people to various sites).

Once it gets enough money I plan to pay for a logo and then a design… when it earns enough that is, I figure it needs to pay for itself to justify paying out for a design…

So I’ve been fiddling with my AdSense ads on my MW2 site – it’s getting quite a lot of page views, so I was interested to see why it was getting a low CTR, as I had placed some of my ads in highly visible areas… So I logged on to the site and checked the ads on the homepage – ok, then I clicked through to the first blog post I noticed and I saw this below (click to enlarge):

Now I don’t know about you guys, but I doubt the average Modern Warfare 2 player is going to have corporate team building on his mind right now, do you?  So I think this is my current problem, Google is serving unrelated ads…

Does anyone know how I can get AdSense to put some better ads on it?  I know you can target ads based on certain parts of text – is this is why I am being punished?!

Well I’ve been doing a lot of thinking recently, I’ve decided that 2010 is going to be the year I get good at monetising websites, starting with my own.  So here is the big question – can I make money from my blog?

I went through the John Chow website with a fine tooth comb recently, I went through all the ads he sells and how much in total he could take home (if all his ads are bought), its something like $14,000 per months just from selling his ads direct.  I read some of his old posts about how he calculates what he charges for private ads, basically he doubles eCPM from AdSense – which makes sense to me.

So I started looking into monetising with AdSense and other ad networks, and I’ve realised I am highly inexperienced – hence the reason for wanting to learn.

My aim is to be making £1,000 ad revenue from a blog per month (not sure which one yet – perhaps you can help me on that – see questions at the end).  I’ve read a few posts and I reckon an eCPM of £5 should be possible – please let me know if I am wrong here as it largely comes down to this number!

I know from my stats that I can get at least 50 visits per month per post, and at least 4 page views per visitor, if I write my blog posts correctly.  So here is the break down:

£1,000 in earnings at £5 eCPM would mean I need 200,000 impressions per month

200,000 impressions with an average of four page views per visitor would mean I need 50,000 visitors

Each article brings in an average of 50 visits per month, so I would need a total of 1,000 articles writing.

If I write 3 articles a day for the next year I might just achieve my goal.

Ok I’d love your opinion here guys, I’ve got a number of queries:

1. What niche should I choose? I know about Modern Warfare 2 (but I’m quitting games), Internet marketing and thats about it.

2. Internet marketing is quite a competitive niche (obviously) If I were to choose Internet marketing, should I use this blog or Site Juicer? (sold).

3. Is eCPM of £5 a reasonable amount – does anyone think this isn’t achievable?

Ok so I was looking at ideas of getting more money through this website. My intention is my entrepreneurial type people, such as myself, will follow my blog and may happen to buy themselves a business, so I intend to advertise businesses for sale that are on ebay, big commission huh?

There is one problem however, when your browsing ebay you realise it is full of absolute rubbish. I mean come on, how many people are there in the world that wish to own their own gadget drop shipping ecommerce turnkey website with free sell a million pounds a minute and become a trazillionaire ebook?!?!?

Anyway I’m hoping to find some way to filter out the crap and bring in the decent businesses for sale, perhaps a minimum sale price or something (maybe even avoid internet marketing as a category).

- Update, it seems I don’t get any commission (bit confused), am awaiting approval from Ebay UK network…
